Goya Curtain presents COMMAND, a two-person exhibition by Nao Kikuchi and Jan van der Ploeg.

One inspiration for my work this time was tabletop games. I remember the word “command” coming from that context - the idea of making choices like fight or run, moments of decision-making, and ultimately choosing a route toward a goal. When I imagined Goya Curtains’ tatami room, Jan’s pink tones, and the texture of my own ceramics, figuring out the options - like a “command” - suited the atmosphere. I also found it interesting that this word connects to Jan’s inspiration from Josef Albers’ design for Command Records, even though the contexts are different.
