Tatsuhiko Togashi:
Have you ever seen peaches growing on a sweet potato vine?
26 Oct - 23 Nov, 2024
Goya Curtain presents ‘Have you ever seen peaches growing on a sweet potato vine?’, an exhibition by Tokyo based artist Tatsuhiko Togashi.
Tatsuhiko Togashi, the founder and chef of Tokyo’s Tomei Diner, finds himself wondering whether he’s an artist, chef or perhaps just a person rearranging things in the world. The connection between food, cooking, and art isn’t direct but instead sensory, experiential, and philosophical.
Togashi’s works have been described as visual poetry. Drawing on diverse subjects, materials and phenomena, his works present what he calls a mingling together of parts. His fragmentary installations require the participation of the viewer to activate and connect the parts using their own perceptions, memories and experiences. He does not expect the audience to waste time seeking to determine the meaning or purpose of his installations. Instead, Togashi-san hopes the time spent with his work will be productive and encourage people to want to do things.
