Luca Frei and Olof Nimar

11 - 19 Nov, 2017

Goya Curtain presents an exhibition by Swedish based artists Luca Frei and Olof Nimar.

The state of uncertainty before making a decision. Uncertainty about what should be done, while we are waiting, and about what is going to happen, after our decision has been made. Another state being moving liquid, like the flow of water under a sheet of melting ice.

Upon finding a hole cut into the fence, Olof Nimar entered an otherwise closed off area of wasteland in Malmö, Sweden. The area, located in the city center, had grown into an undefined wilderness. In this work, Nimar presents a series of photographs of stones, partially carved by an unknown sculptor, that he encountered while walking through this urban wasteland.

In Luca Frei’s film, The Endless Summer, a thin, linear silhouette reminiscent of Alberto Giacometti’s Falling Man is projected onto the body of a surfer who rides a wave until the camera is submerged in the water. In this looping film, the endless repetition renders the moving image at once meaningless and necessary.
