For Shoes off Teppei Togashi and Shoko Yoshida, two Tokyo-based sound artists, will use the apartment's six-mat tatami room as their stage to cleanse the space and inaugurate it through sounds, songs and noise. Photographer Bjorn Houtman and installation artist Joel Kirkham — the founders of Goya Curtain — will also present their recent work, helping to set the initial shape for this slightly awkward art space.

イベント当日は、東京を拠点に活動するTeppei TogashiとShoko Yoshidaがサウンドや歌、ノイズでステージとなる六畳の和室を浄化し、新し くオープンするギャラリー空間を盛り上げます。

Goya Curtain is a 1DK apartment — a standard type of rental space in Japan, consisting only of a dining room and kitchen and bedroom — in Tokyo's Naka- Meguro neighborhood. The building it is part of was built in the 1950s, during Tokyo's period of rapid expansion, and is scheduled to be demolished in 2017. During the coming 12 months Goya Curtain will host exhibitions, projects and live performances; the type of work that lends itself towards inquiry and experimentation.
